San Francisco Giants crush Los Angeles Angels 5-3 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants crushed the Los Angeles Angels 5-3 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, June 18 at Angel Stadium in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The Giants played well from start of the game and finished it with style as they humiliated the Angels in great manner.
Starter Matt Cain pitched five innings and received three runs and six hits. He also retired four batters and maintained his 2.34 ERA.
"It was definitely a grind-it-out day, I was having to work. You've still got some energy, probably, from (the perfect game), but I was mostly worrying about making pitches." said Cain,
Later San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said of his team for his starter’s performance, "I'd say it was a gutty effort, I'm sure he felt the residuals from his last start. He had to. You could tell he wasn't quite on. He was missing his spots a little, but
he competes so well. ... He's relentless out there. He just keeps grinding, and he got a win out of it."
The Angels’ starter Jerome Williams however, could not play well as he gave four runs and seven hits. He also received four earned runs as his ERA rose to 4.46.
Relief pitcher Hisanori Takahashi was also remained unproductive with his 2.0 innings with two hits and one run.
Overall the game was played on high pace especially the Giants batting offence looked confident when the stretched five runs’ lead in the first six innings with the help of Ryan Theriot and Brandon Crawford.
Second baseman Theriot made two RBIs and short stop Crawford made also added two RBIs as the Giants surpass the Angels with ease.
The Giants now stand quite confident at second position in the National League West Division 38-30 win loss along with .559  winning percentage.
This is also a healthy sign for the Giants as they are now watching their way forward into the post season.
The Angels’, in the meanwhile, are also playing with above .500 winning percentage but these recent defeats and the level of thrust they are showing in this particular series could surprise them with failing to qualify into the next round of competition.
