San Francisco Giants crush Philadelphia Phillies 7-2 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants crushed the Philadelphia Phillies 7-2 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, July 20 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
Giants’ continued their great run since the start of the second half and won another game. San Francisco so far have won six out of seven games they played while their effort is still giving them some positive momentum ahead of post season qualification.
On Friday, the Giants showed their true colour and kept the Phillies under pressure throughout the game which eventually proved wonderful them as they powered past their opponents with style.
Giants played together and never gave any loop-hole to the Phillies. Their entire team played together and in the end was successfully able to win with ease.
Tim Lincecum, who had been struggling to keep up the pace in the first half, performed tremendously and earned a great victory for the Giants.
He pitched seven innings and received two runs on only five hits. He struck-out six as his ERA remained consistent at 5.72.
His late performance has also given Lincecum a positive direction as he surely now will perform with some improved play.
“If it weren't for my fastball command, those guys might have been sitting on my offspeed [pitches] and crushing them, I'm not saying by any means that 'I'm back.' I'm just trying to get back to that consistency and use it as my springboard," Lincecum said.
He added, “Pretty much all he said to me was, 'Hey, go get this next guy. You're doing fine. Just stick with it, I'm just trying to buckle down in crunch situations and not worry about what bad things can happen, which is what I've been doing earlier,"
On the other hand, the Phillies' starter Vance Worley performed real low and received six crucial runs and six earned runs. He was also smashed with six hits along with a homer.
His poor pitching was also the main reason as why the Phillies lost that bitterly. From start of the game, he did not look comfortable on the mound and eventually lost the game for the Giants.
