San Francisco Giants crushed by St. Louis Cardinals 1-3 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants crushed by the St. Louis Cardinals 1-3 in the fourth and final game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, August 9 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
Giants played under pressure from start of the game and lost in the end with bitter humiliation. They could not capitalise on their upfront offence and eventually received a heavy defeat from the Cardinals.
Giants’ entire roster looked tired in the field as they did not show any fighting spirit during the entire game. Their hitters and at the same time pitchers did not play their natural game and could not match the Cardinals’ brilliance.
After giving too many chances to the Cardinals early in the game, the Giants were never able to bounce back which cost them a humiliating defeat.
"We were hoping Scutaro's ball would have gotten heavy there and drop in for us, That was a turning point in the game there. That ball falls in and we have something pretty good going there," said Giants' manager Bruce Bochy after the game.
Bochy added, “We're getting to the latter part of the season. You try not to think about that ... standings and other teams, You don't try. You can't. You've got to be concerned with what you do, and win ballgames. This was an important road trip. We bounced back after really struggling there at home. The guys showed a lot of character on this trip."
On the other hand, the Cardinals played combined as one unit. They did not waste any time early in the game and started their thrust in the very first inning.
Cardinals took the early lead in the first inning and later in the sixth, they strengthened it with one more run. Their hitters and pitchers performed beautifully and kept the Giants under pressure. They did not give any loop-holes and eventually earned a great victory.
Starter Adam Wainwright stood tall against the Giants’ hitters and won the game for the Cardinals. He allowed five hits and only one run on his 3.90 ERA.
