San Francisco Giants defeat Chicago Cubs 3-2 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants outclassed the Chicago Cubs 3-2 in the fourth and final game of their four-match regular series encounter on Monday, June 4 at AT&T Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
This was the fourth straight defeat for the Cubs as their status for the potential post season qualification is compromised with one of the worst winning percentages in this ongoing MLB competition.
Starter Ryan Vogelsong played brilliantly and certainly won the game for the Giants. He remained calm on the mound and pitched seven innings’ spell. Giving only two runs and eight hits, the Giants seven year veteran littler handcuffed the Cubs and allowed them to take control of the game at any stage.
"You don't want to be the weak link, Three games like that, I don't want to be the guy who doesn't come through. It's a tough act to follow those three guys, those three outings." Vogelsong said with confidence as he gave no chance to his opposing team to take control of the game.
Later Giants' manager Bruce Bochy said for his team’s tremendous pitching prowess which slowly but progressively outpitched the Cubs, "Pitching was just outstanding, We scratched and clawed for the runs we got. These games could have gone either way."
The Cubs’ manager Dale Sveum was not happy on his team’s effort as he said in the media criticising some of the senior players in the roster, "It's something that's obviously unacceptable at any time, Whether we could have turned the double play or not is irrelevant to not knowing how many outs there are in the most important part of the game.”
Cubs’ are at the moment sitting at bottom in the National League Central with 18-36 win-loss record along with .333 winning percentage. Their consistent poor performance could make things more difficult when they will face tougher rivals.
On the other hand, the Giants are at comfortable position in the National League West behind league leaders Los Angeles Dodgers. Their 31-24 win-loss record along with .564 winning percentage is looking offensive as their post season chances are also quite optimistic.
