San Francisco Giants defeat Florida Marlins 5-2 for second straight win – MLB Update
The San Francisco Giants retaliated in a perfect fashion, as they overpowered the strong rivals Florida Marlins 5-2 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami on Sunday, August 14 to take the three-game series 2-1.
Starter Ryan Vogelsong played vital role in the Giants’ second straight after losing four straight games by the Marlins. Florida was leading the series 4-0 when the Giants shut them out 3-0 in the fifth diversion of the six games series scheduled between
the clubs this season. Then in this game, the Giants carried their crushing impetus and dropped the rivals 5-2.
Although the game seems to went into the Marlins’ favour in the start, as Vogelsong has given one run in the bottom of the first inning and the Marlins’ starter Chris Volstad held the Giants scoreless in the first two innings, but the Giants batting and
pitching depth made a combine encounter.
Vogelsong bounced back with his granular pitches and held the Marlins scoreless until the bottom of the eighth inning while the Giants bat, on the other hand touched five game winning runs. Vogelsong worked just over seven innings and yielded two runs on
four hits and struck-out eight batters to get his tenth win of the season.
"I don't think they were trying to hit me," Vogelsong said. "But any time you get hit, you're going to be mad, especially because I have no extra-base hits, and I haven't had a hit in about two months."
Vogelsong’s spell depressed the Marlins’ to such an extent that he even mispronounced his name in frustration.
Jack McKeon said. "Guys get carried away. Vogel ... Volkswagen ... whatever his name is -- he's lucky he didn't have to face Drysdale or Gibson or one of those guys. You would get a shave and a haircut real quick."
Santiago Casilla and Jeff Affeldt were also destructive, but Jack was more furious with Vogelsong. Casilla tossed a perfect eighth inning while Ramon Ramirez also carried the momentum in the ninth inning to get his second win of the season.
All of the Giants’ scores came off homers. Cody Ross, Nate Schierholtz each launched one homer while Brandon Belt hammered two homers one each in the fourth and the eighth inning.
With this win, the Giants have improved their record to 66-55 with 31 games away from home.
