San Francisco Giants’ defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3 – MLB Update
The San Francisco Giants overpowered the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3 in the second outing played at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Tuesday July 19, to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
After a 5-0 shutout win in the first game, the Giants’ confidence was on the peak and they utilised it to post five stunning runs to take their 57th win of the season. They scored two runs in the second, one in the fifth and two more in the seventh
inning to finalise their win. The Dodgers, on the other hand, failed to exhibit any special hitting and managed only three runs, all in the top of the third inning.
First baseman Brandon Belt hammered a dazzling one-run homer to lead off the game in the bottom of the second inning. Madison Bumgarner joined hands, allowing Brandon Crawford to score a run on his ground out single to short-stop.
The Dodgers were trailing by two runs when Tony Gwynn opened the account with an RBI single and Rafael Furcal drove in an RBI double to take his team into a 3-2 leading position in the top of the third inning. The Giants’ batting line up struggled in the
bottom of the third and fourth inning but Pablo Sandoval managed to add a 3-all single in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The game remained scoreless in the sixth inning. However, Belt scored an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning to create a strong position. Their pitchers managed to restrict the Dodgers scoreless in the later innings and the defending World Series
champions’ snatched their win in the season.
"That was a big goal for me, to bring the confidence that I had down (in the minors) up to the plate up here," said Belt. "The first time I was up here I was definitely a little bit overwhelmed but since I've been up here I'm starting to relax a little bit
more."
Bumgarner, making his 20th start of the season, struck-out seven batters, allowing only three runs on four hits over eight innings to grab his fifth win of the season. With this win, his record improved to 5-9 with 3.72 ERA. Brian Wilson tossed
a perfect ninth inning to achieve his 29th save of the season.
"I think maybe the games when they didn't score a lot helped me more because I'm able to just go out there and pitch," Bumgarner said. "It was nice to get some tonight, though. It made it a lot easier."
The Dodgers’ starter Ruby De La Rosa scattered three runs on nine hits and struck-out five batters over five innings. Kenley Jansen remained scoreless in his single inning but Hong-Chih Kuo allowed two runs on two hits and walked three batters over his less
than one inning. Mike MacDougal did not permit any run in just over one inning.
