San Francisco Giants defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3 – MLB Update
San Francisco Giants continued their winning streak against their National League rivals Los Dodgers as the batters Thomas Neal and Buster Posey hammered brilliant home-runs to lead the team to a 5-3 victory on Friday, March 4 at Camelback Ranch.
The Dodgers and Giants met for the second time this spring after San Francisco defeated Los Angeles 8-3 last Saturday in Scottsdale.
Giants got their chance to score in second innings when Cody Ross received the ball at his left wrist. The slight hit provides Travis Ishikawa a chance to move to first base. Matt Kemp also allowed Ishikawa to achieve third.
The batters were accompanied by under-rated pitcher Barry Zito who contributed two strike-outs in three innings to yet another win. "I definitely have work to do, but I'm encouraged," Zito said. "I want to prove that I have what it takes to be productive."
Zito performed better than he did on Monday against Milwaukee where he was hit three times allowing two earned runs while striking-out only one. He was happy with his performance and intended to present the same in the coming games.
Manager Bruce Bochy enjoyed the victory and defended remarks against his players. He commented that they came back in the second inning as Thomas and Buster contributed to defending World Series Champion’s win.
Dodgers tried hard as the right-handed pitcher Jon Garland got two of Giants’ batters to leave the ground as he struck them out. He allowed only one run on one hit but failed to name any walk to his name. Garland was the pitcher who hit Ross on the left
wrist but took his revenge hitting Marcus Thames on the tight hand.
Zito pitched in three innings and according to Bochy, he made his best in the third. "In the first two innings, he was out of sync," he said. "In that third inning, he slowed things down and had a better rhythm going, so he finished up on a good note, which
is good news."
The club will be face-to-face with Oakland Athletics on Saturday at Phoenix.
