San Francisco Giants defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4 – MLB Update
Brian Wilson put in a brilliant performance as the San Francisco Giants defeated Lost Angeles Dodgers 5-4 at AT&T Park, San Francisco on April 12.
Wilson was the force to be reckoned with, as the closer was received by a roaring sellout crowd as he walked to the mound. He struck-out towards the side for the first save of the game and as soon as that happen it seemed like everything was back to normal
for the Giants.
It was a close, heated match and the Giants were victorious by a single run. Credit should be given to Wilson who the fans and the team relied on. Thankfully he did not disappoint either.
The seventh inning started off with Aaron Rowand tripling and then scoring on a wild pitch. This marked the Giants triumph over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The victory was sealed by Wilson without any additional drama. Praising him pitcher par excellence Tim
Lincecum of the Giants said, "That's the Wilson everybody wants to see." Pablo Sandoval piped in saying, "We've got Wilson back. That was the Wilson we know."
Wilson had 48 saves last year which made him the major saves leader. The current season started off with him being in the Disabled List. Once he was activated he didn’t perform up to the standard he had set for himself. In his first two appearances he allowed
five runs which gave him a 33.75 ERA. The number was lowered to 19.29 after the 1-2-3, 14-pitch ninth.
The game night was windy and Lincecum was impressive since the start. The Giants managed to generate enough offence against the Dodgers’ bull-pen to beat them. This was their second win over the Dodgers in five tries.
Due to his injury, Andre Torres could not play so Rowand filled in for him and added an RBI single in the fifth inning. Even though Jeremy Affeldt allowed Marcus Thames a tying homer in the start of the seventh inning, he earned the win.
The Dodgers played the match without two of their main infield members. Rafael Fucal was placed for 15 days on the Disabled List, as he broke his thumb while he was sliding towards third base during Mondays match. Jamey Carroll tried to manage most of the
load at short-stop. Buster Posey’s RBI single in the fifth inning barely escaped Carroll.
