San Francisco Giants defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 8-5 - Part 1
San Francisco Giants put in a good performance as they defeated Los Angeles Dodgers 8-5 at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles on Wednesday, May 18.
Any match between the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers is set to attract quite some attention. The rivalry between the teams has been present for the longest time and is parallel to the rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Boston
Red Sox.
Unfortunately, that rivalry took a turn for the worst when in March a Giants’ fan by the name of Bryan Stow, wearing a Giants jersey was beaten by two men dressed up in Dodgers gear to a point where he had to be put into a medically induced coma so he may
survive. Due to that particular event and many throughout history at Dodger Stadium this match took place with high levels of security.
Police were present inside, outside and near the stadium keeping an eye out for anyone who might disrupt the peace of the game. They were also distributing out leaflets of sketches of the suspected attackers of Stow so that the police could get some help
to track down the suspects. The total reward for assistance in leading to the suspects arrest is a whopping $200,000.
Mounted security personnel were seen patrolling the car park before the game began. Cadets were deployed on various locations so that maximum number of flyers regarding the attackers could be distributed, as the police look for any leads that may add up
to the capturing of the two men. Security officers were even present inside the field and over looked the players from the two teams warmed up before the game began. An evidently tense and grim air was present throughout the stadium as everyone stood up in
respect of the national anthem and remembered March’s events.
In the week after the beating of Stow, the team members of the Giants and the Dodgers joined hands in the field in an unprecedented move to call for peace and civility from the fans. The incident with Bryan Stow sparked instant controversy regarding the
state of Dodger stadium and how apparent thugs are allowed to come in and do as they wish just because the stadium management makes money off them.
The game marked the first time that the reigning World Series Champions returned to Dodger Stadium after the tragic incident.
This isn’t the only controversy that the Dodgers are involved in though. They have recently been taken over by Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig as Dodgers’ owner, Frank McCourt fights for his franchise. The club has been seen to cripple slowly
in the past few years as McCourt can’t conjure enough money to maintain and operate the team. There are rumours that the franchise would be put for sale.
