San Francisco Giants defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 8-5 - Part 2
In the highly anticipated match-up between long standing rivals the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Giants were victorious in a thoroughly entertaining game that could have tipped in either teams favour in the final inning.
This game was the first that the reigning World Series Champions the Giants played at Dodger Stadium after the unruly and tragic beating of Giants’ fan Bryan Stow by two men in Dodger clothing.
The Dodgers lost mainly due to their shaky and over worked bull-pen that couldn’t seem to find their footing throughout the match but credit should be given to the team for battling it out for as long as they could.
For the Giants, this match was an opportunity where they proved to their critics that their hitting drought was behind them as the eight runs that the Giants scored were the most they have come up with since they scored the same on April 18.
The Giants dominated in the first half of the game as they belted out hits in the third and fourth inning. The first run to be put on the scoreboard from San Francisco’s side was courtesy of Freddy Sanchez who singled to the right and Matt Cain scored while
Aaron Rowand moved himself to third base.
In the next inning, Miguel Tejada singled and Pat Burrell scored moving Aubrey Huff to second base and Cody Ross to third. Another run in the fourth inning came when Mike Fontenot walked and Ross scored. The fourth inning wrapped up with Rowand belting out
a sacrifice fly off which Huff scored.
The Dodgers were successful in managing to get up runs in the fifth and seventh inning. The first one came as Matt Kemp unleashed a home-run that flew a distance of 407 feet. The next run from the Dodgers came when Rod Barajas doubled to right and Jay Gibbons
scored.
After that the Giants sneaked in a run in the eighth inning as Tejada singled and Ross scored.
The Dodgers were quick to answer back with two runs in the eighth inning with the first one from Matt Kemp and the second from Juan Uribe. At this point in the match both teams were on equal standing and anyone could’ve taken home the victory.
The Giants got lucky as Ross belted out a tie breaking home-run which covered a distance of 388 feet, effectively finishing up the game with a victory under San Francisco’s name. The Giants managed to play well and stayed aggressive throughout the game.
They did not allow the Dodgers to score with ease and contained their top players. The Dodgers put in a decent effort, but it was not enough for a victory on the night.
