San Francisco Giants defeat Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 to tie series 1-all – MLB Update
San Francisco Giants bounced back to drop their rivals Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 in the second match of the three-game series at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Saturday, July 23.
Both starters held the game scoreless until the top of the fourth inning, when the Brewers’ Ryan Braun hammered stunning home-run to open the game. However, the Giants’ Nate Schierholtz scored an RBI double to left-field to take his team from to a 2-1 lead.
Ryan Vogelsong then allowed another run in the top of the fifth inning to allow the Brewers tie the game 2-all. It proved Vogelsong’s last inning, as manager Bruce Bochy employed Santiago Casilla to pitch the next inning. However, Vogelsong managed to gather
his eighth win of the season, in spite of allowing seven hits and two walks and making only three walks.
Aubrey Huff hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning to bring back the game to his side with a 3-2 lead. Andres Torres then singled in the eighth inning to finalise the 4-2 win for the defending World Series champions.
Casilla acted as per the expectation of his manager and took out one batter without allowing any run over his one inning. Jeremy Affeldt, Sergio Romo, Javier Lopez and Brian Wilson also remained scoreless to help the Giants grab their 58th win
of the season. Taking this game, Wilson now improves his record to 30 saves with 2.89 ERA in 2011.
Brewers’ starter Randy Wolf allowed three runs on seven hits and permitted three walks to receive his eight loss of the season. He also struck-out six batters but it was not enough to save him from a second straight loss. He now has 6-8 record with 3.62
ERA in 21 starts of the season.
Reliever LaTroy Hawkins and closer Marco Estrada did not permit any run over their short spells, but Kameron Loe allowed a run in the eighth inning.
The Brewers have lost their 48th game of the season. Their record now has moved to 54-48 with just 21 wins away from home. The Giants’ on the other hand have a 58-43 record with 31 wins at home and 27 at road.
