San Francisco Giants defeat New York Mets 7-6 – MLB Update
San Francisco Giants’ hitters picked themselves up from their slump to defeat the New York Mets 7-6 at Citi Field, New York on Tuesday, May 3.
The Giants are not doing too well when on the field. They have barely managed any wins and even the matches they have managed to win aren’t impressive by any standards. This is certainly not very becoming of the reigning World Series Champions. Their win
against the New York Mets was certainly very refreshing to see.
Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy made sure that his team picks himself this time around in their series against the Mets and to the relief of countless San Francisco fans they performed well.
Before they came to New York to play against the Mets, they had lost three of four games that were played in Washington. The statistics for their last series were truly grim as they had only four over all runs and have scored a mere 23 in their last 11 games.
Previously they had been shut-out thrice in the passage of three games and have the second worst offense in all of National League.
Thankfully, Bochy stepped right in. During batting practice he was seen to throw knuckle balls with the players and it definitely helped them in the field. Aubrey Huff, an accomplished Giants’ hitter who was sadly on a hitting drought in quite a few of the
games ended the night with a homer in the tenth inning, effectively awakening the Giants from their offensive slumber.
"It's nice to see something like that. He threw a couple rounds, pretty good knuckleballs," said Mike Fontenot. "I'm not going to say it had as much movement as Dickey's did, but it kind of got us in the frame of mind."
Nate Schierholtz who had previously disappointed by losing eight out of 11 successfully hit a home-run as well. The first run of the game came from the Mets side in the very first inning as Carlos Beltran hit a 362 feet home-run towards the right side of
the field. Jose Reyes and D Murphy scored as well.
Their next run came in the third innings when Ian Davis belted a home-run that flew a good 399 feet. David Wright scored as well. Their last run came in the sixth innings as Reyes successfully singled towards the centre of the field and Pridie scored off
it.
The Giants accumulated a total of four runs in the third inning alone. Ryan Vogelsong was the first to single with Ross scoring and Burriss took the opportunity to move to third base. Later Aaron Rowand singled, once again, to the centre of the field and
Burriss scored as Vogelsong moved to second base.
After that Fontenot singled and Vogelsong together with Rowand scored. Their next run came in the fourth inning with Burriss grounding out towards the pitcher as Schierholtz scored and Ross moved to second base. The sixth innings saw Schierholtz homering
to the right side. The ball flew a good 411 feet. Aubrey finished off the match by belting out a 394 feet home-run in the tenth inning.
