San Francisco Giants defeat Pittsburgh Pirates 6-0 – MLB Update
The National League’s San Francisco Giants has taken the revenge of the last night’s defeat, overpowering the rivals Pittsburgh Pirates 6-0 in the second outing at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Tuesday, August 9 to tie the three-game series 1-all.
The defending World Series Champions received a humiliating defeat in the last game when they managed only one run and consumed five to a relatively weak team. The champions were in a fury when they entered on Tuesday under 61 degrees in a jam-packed stadium.
Their starter Madison Bumgarner proved to be the difference between both sides, as he tossed seven shut-out innings and snatched ten strike-outs including, strong Derek Lee and Brandon Wood. The right-hand hurler completed his spell tossing 101 pitches and
got his seventh win of the season to improve it to 7-11 with a 3.53 ERA in 24 games.
He was lucky to have Sergio Romo and Santiago at his back, as both of them sent the already struggling Pirates into a dark hole with their killing fastballs. Romo allowed just a single hit over his 16 pitches inning while Casilla did not take more than 34
pitches to finalise the game.
While Bumgarner performed his duty, the Giants’ batters helped him in getting the 64th win for the club. Aubrey Huff opened the game with his RBI single in the fourth inning followed by a homer by Chris Stewart in the fifth inning. Huff contributed
again this time in the form of a homer against the Pirates’ starter James MacDonald in the sixth inning to take the lead to 3-0.
"I missed my spot in the major leagues, that's what I did, and they put a good swing on the ball," McDonald said. "I tip my hat to them. I've given up home runs my whole career."
After this inning, MacDonald left the mound and Chris Resop replaced him in a stunning manner and took out one batter, allowing just a single hit in the seventh inning. However, as soon as he handed the ball to Jason Grilli, Giants treated him with little
regard as Nate Schierholtz, Cody Ross and Orlando Cabrera each made an RBI single in the eight to elevate the lead to 6-0.
The third game of the series will now be a do or die for the both teams. Having an excellent past record and dazzling hitters, the defending champions are being considered favourites in the finale on Wednesday.
