San Francisco Giants defeat Seattle Mariners 4-2 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants defeated the Seattle Mariners 4-2 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, June 15 at Safeco Field in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Ryan Vogelsong played tremendously for the Giants as he pitched seven innings and never gave too many chances to opposing batters to score freely. He allowed two runs and four hits along with two earned runs. He pitched quite accurately and maintained his 2.29 ERA.
"I told him before the game that I'm trying to keep up with him and he's making it tough. He's not making it easy, I said to these guys last year I didn't want to be the weak link in the rotation, I'm just trying to go out there and feed off of them." Vogelsong said after the game with confidence.
Later Giants manager Bruce Bochy said of his starter who played a key role in his team’s comeback win, "What you like about him is he keeps his composure out there, even with the walks, he continues to grind it out and make pitches,"
Mariners from start to end did not play well and lost the game with bitter humiliation. They looked tired when they approached their home field.
Giants on the other hand came with much energy and played confidently. Getting lead in the second innings, the Giants strengthened it adding another run in the fourth. The Mariners, despite making two quick runs in the eighth still fell short with two runs’ deficit and lost in the end.
Jason Vargas played poorly for the Mariners as he pitched eight innings and received 10 hits and four runs.
However, later in the game, Seattle manager Eric Wedge said of Vargas, "He kept us in it. We're struggling on offense here right now, but he deserved to be out there late.”
Experts believe that this is not a healthy sign for the Mariners who are not performing well and sitting at bottom in the American League West Division with poor 29-39 along with .426 winning percentage.
On the other hand, the Giants with this win has strengthened their position in the National League West Division with 37-30 win loss and .552 winning percentage.
