San Francisco Giants defeated by Chicago Cubs 3-4 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants defeated by the Chicago Cubs 3-4 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Friday, April 12 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Earlier in the first game, the Giants pulled off with a great start and thrashed the Cubs 7-6 while now; the series is leveled with 1-1, both teams are showing their attacking game.
The Cubs played wonderfully in game second and won with style. Their batters and pitchers performed with quite consistence and never allowed the Giants to take advantage at any stage of the game.
"Obviously a home run and a walk-off hit and a nice job at shortstop," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said. "It was a well-played game except for the three runs in the ninth after beating them for 8 1/3 innings."
Getting the lead in third inning, the Cubs continued to dominate the game even the Giants scored three runs in the ninth. Overall the hitting and pitching prowess of Cubs were the reason they won the game with ease.
Carlos Villanueva started the game for the Cubs and remained consistent with his exceptional 0.64 ERA. He did even receive a run on his 7.1 innings’ spell. He struck out three and certainly proved one of the winning factors for the Cubs.
Closer Kyuji Fujikawa pitched one inning for the Cubs and received three runs on three hits. He played relatively poor but overall his teammate and starter Villanueva provide cover for him with his exceptional pitching.
Along with pitchers, the Cubs hitters also played well and contributed in their team’s win. Central fielder David DeJesus scored two runs on three hits while he maintained his slugging percentage at .472.
"With Cain you want to be aggressive. He throws strikes," DeJesus said. "You get a fastball, you want to take advantage of it. ... I wasn't 100 percent. I was kind of like, 'Man, I popped it up.' But when you look at the flags, the wind really took it."
Shortstop Starlin Castro came to bat five times and scored one run on two hits. He also ran for two RBIs providing the Cubs a good platform to outcast the last season’s World Series winners.
