‘San Francisco Giants earned where they’re headed now,’ admit Cincinnati Reds – NLDS News
After the San Francisco Giants knocked the Cincinnati Reds out of the National League Division Series with 6-4 win, the Reds' players admitted to the mistakes that culminated with their ouster. The Reds are now the first team in the National League to be eliminated from post-season even after having 2-0 lead in the series.
While there were places that the Reds could not quite show their efficacy as a team, the Giants played brilliantly, overwhelming their rivals in the crucial NLDS.
Things started changing for the Giants in the Game 3 when they won their first game, after the Reds had a 2-0 lead. Down in the series with 2-0 deficit, the Giants then came back spectacularly,
"We left it all out there," said Reds right fielder Jay Bruce. "That's a good team, but we didn't play well enough. That's the bottom line. We fought all we could, but [the Giants] came in here and did something unprecedented."
The Reds recognise it is the Giants’ resurgence that eventually led to their victory. When the first two games’ result went to the Reds favour, it appeared they were all set in to sweep the series. But, like stated earlier, it was Game 3 that completely altered the outlook of the NLDS.
"Game 3 is the tough game for them," Scott Rolen said. "That's a big uphill climb for them, so you have to give them a ton of credit for Game 3, sticking in there and playing good baseball and staying on top of things. That's an easy one to let slide a little bit. They stayed on top of it, and they earned where they're headed right now."
The Reds undeniably remained one of the best teams out there in the National League throughout the regular season, winning over 90 games. Even during the start of NLDS they were the favourite contenders for the title, but could not quite hold their ground.
Now that the Reds are out of the post-season, it is the Giants who will figure in the National League Championship Series, competing against either the Washington Nationals or the St. Louis Cardinals.
