San Francisco Giants edge Houston Astros 3-2 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants edge past the Houston Astros 3-2 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, July 15 at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
Giants’ played well throughout the game and earned a great victory. Their batters gave early advantage while their pitchers also provided a helping hand to protect this one run advantage which proved decisive in the end as the Giants took the game away in style.
“To get a sweep is hard to do, I don't care who you're playing," San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said. "These games were hard-fought games. We didn't do a lot with their pitching the last couple of days. It really could have gone either way.”
Giants’ experienced players Matt Cain and Buster Posey played tremendously and kept the Astros under pressure and never gave up anything to dominate during the entire game.
Cain with his balanced pitching and Posey with his hitting prowess proved the Astros game-play was quite average as they finish the last game of the series with a loss.
"I think we've got enough depth in the lineup where we can get the job done," said Posey. "Obviously any time Melky's not in there we're going to miss him, though. I'm just trying to keep a good approach and have a plan every time I go up there."
With this win, the Giants not only won the game but they also completed the clean sweep 3-0 of the series with comprehensiveness.
Cain pitched 6.1 innings and gave up two runs on five hits. His pitching was accurate as he struck-out six Astros’ hitters as his ERA also remained consistent at 2.56.
Buster Posey also helped his team as his two RBIs and three hits also proved one of the winning factors of the Giants’ win.
On the other hand, the entire Astros’ roster played under pressure and lost in the end.
Especially their starter Bud Norris did not play well and pitched his six innings spell without any power. He was hammered with three runs on five hits while he also gave three earned runs as his ERA rose to 4.70.
