San Francisco Giants edge Houston Astros 3-2 – MLB Update
The San Francisco Giants edged past the Houston Astros 3-2 in the first game of the three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, August 28 at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
Hector Sanchez played well as his last inning hit proved decisive for the Giants’ win. He added a RBI and was able to maintain his slugging percentage at .367.
"The bench came through for us tonight, They saved us. It just goes to show you how important the bench is. They delivered tonight," Bochy said on his team’s starter Sanchez and about his contribution in the Giants’ win.
"It's my job to be ready in that situation, I'll take it. It's a good one," Sanchez said.
Along with Sanchez, the Giants other experienced batters also did well with the bat and proved helpful in their team’s victory.
Centre fielder Angel Pagan scored one run and smashed two hits on his four at bats along with a RBI. He played aggressively and kept the Astros batters under pressure.
First baseman Brandon Belt also played well as he scored one run and smashed a hit. He did well on his four at-bats and maintained his slugging percentage at .395.
Pinch hitter Joaquin Arias added one run and smashed one hit along with a RBI on his .396 slugging percentage.
Not only hitters, but the Giants' pitchers also did well on the mound and proved too good for the Astros' batters.
Starter Matt Cain pitched 7.1 innings and allowed two runs and six hits. He struck-out five and received one homer on his 2.82 ERA.
"I just threw it too short for Buster, I just didn't execute the pitch. It was big, Those guys have done a great job for me all year, picking me up at times and making some spectacular plays behind me. As a pitcher that just motivates you to keep wanting to go out there and pitch well." Cain said.
Along with Cain, his team-mate, closing pitcher Sergio Romo also performed well and earned great victory for his team. He pitched one innings and struck-out one on his 2.01 ERA.
