San Francisco Giants edge Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants edge past the Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 in second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, July 21 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
Giants’ played tremendously and earned a great victory for their team.
From their starting rotation to batting lineup, they did not show any loop-holes in their game and eventually won in the end.
Star of the Game was 2012 Major League Baseball All-Star Game Most Valuable Player left fielder Melky Cabrera as he made three runs on two hits as well as one RBI.
Catcher Buster Posey also contributed with his one run, four hits and three important RBIs.
Along with Posey, the Giants' right-fielder Gregor Blanco also played well and earned a single RBI.
"I said to myself, 'I'm going to have another opportunity to win this game, That's why baseball is fun, You win on a bunt today. Tomorrow we can win with pitching. Or we can win with more home runs. That's why we're playing so well this year. Everybody's trying to contribute,'" Blanco said.
Matt Cain despite pitching poorly for the Giants, he did well with the bat and scored one run on his three at bats. He also added a RBI on his single hit as his slugging percentage also remained consistent at .267.
“It seems like we're doing a lot of things right right now, A lot of the guys are finding ways to pick each other up. I don't know if it's our best baseball, but I know that we're playing really well and we have to keep that going,” Cain said.
Cain pitched eight innings and received five runs on five hits.
On the other hand, the Phillies despite showing some late efforts from their senior players still could not save the game and lost with bitter humiliation.
Especially starter Cole Hamels was smashed with five runs and five earned runs on ten hits along with three homers.
Closer Jonathan Papelbon was also hammered with two hits and one run. He also gave one earned run as his ERA rose to 3.46.
