San Francisco Giants edge past the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 - MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants edged past the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, August 7 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
Veteran Barry Zito led his team’s upfront attack and rattled the Cardinals with force.
He pitched a solid 6.2 innings and showed his focus as he allowed two runs, eight hits and two earned runs. Though he was hit with two homers but at the same time he struck-out four Cardinals batters on his 4.19 ERA.
"I was going to come out here looking to be aggressive. That was my game plan, When we went up three in the first, it's even more important to come out throwing strikes," Zito said with confidence as he explained about his performance and the team’s performance.
Zito added, "When we go up three in first, it's even more important to come out, throw strikes put the pressure on their offense.”
Along with an experienced starter, the Giants' entire roster also played well and kept their opponents under pressure and eventually won in the end.
It was a good morale boosting win for the Giants as they bounced back in real fine manner after losing the first game of the series to the Cardinals.
Giants’ players kept their cool on the field and earned a well fought victory in great style.
On the other hand, the Cardinals looked tired on the field could not able to fight back on Tuesday night.
Their hitters and pitchers failed miserably against the Giants powerful offence and suffered a humiliating defeat.
Especially starter Lance Lynn played poorly and could not save the game for the Cardinals.
"One pitch cost me the game, I wasn't trying to give him anything to hit. It was just a bad pitch," Lynn said
Lynn added, “One swing, one pitch, cost me the game. I wasn't trying to give him anything to hit there, It was just a bad pitch."
Lance Lynn allowed four runs and eight hits on in six innings spell as his ERA rose to 3.52.
