San Francisco Giants expect Brandon Belt to start season in Triple-A League
San Francisco Giants are eyeing their potential players in various positions without gambling on their ability. The club’s top prospect, Brandon Belt will therefore not be risked to the first team role either. The young gun is
the club’s top product at the moment and it did not come as a surprise when general manager, Brian Sabean spoke about the player.
The hype that Belt has been picking up has led his fans to support the player’s run for the first team position in the regular league season. However, Brian has clarified now that Belt will be starting off with the Triple-A club,
Frenso.
"You don't want a young player, or potentially a player that's going to burst on the scene, [coming] to Spring Training and [having] no chance," Sabean said. "You have to give them some hope that you're going to be open-minded.
Having said that, I probably expect him to start in Triple-A, and we'll be conservative. But you can't kill his enthusiasm or his will to want to make the team. He'll have to force his way into this mix through his performance."
Sabean further iterated that if Belt wanted to pave his way into the major Leagues, the club would see to it that he would stay and contribute to the team’s success as an important component in the unity. He went to say that if
Belt was a role player or if the club decided to over manage his skills in the roster, then Triple-A would be his likely destination.
Catcher, Buster Posey caught a lot of hype last season when the prospect played for the Giants in the World Series, thumping the Texas Rangers out of contention. He was nominated for the Rookie of the Year award in 2010 and he
made a similar start in Triple-A, before being called on by the management on May 29.
The club will be looking at preparing Belt for the future season as his recent record in the minor league is picking up rave reviews. The 22-year-old batted with a .352 average in the minor leagues, hitting 23 homers and collecting
112 RBIs (Runs Batted In) for his respective clubs. His performance in Triple-A league in the last season was disappointing as his batting average went up to just .229 in 13 match appearances.
The Giants will be looking to polish the prospect’s skills before a bigger challenge comes up in the major leagues.
