San Francisco Giants get hold of Carlos Beltran – MLB News
San Francisco Giants seem to have been playing their cards well, as they have successfully struck a deal with Carlos Beltran and are paying him $4-million to become a tremendous addition to the team’s hitting line-up.
There are already reports that suggest that Beltran will most probably be playing the game on Thursday, July 28 against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Giants’ manager was indeed visibly excited to have managed in signing the deal with the player.
"I just talked to Carlos," said Sabean. "He very much wanted to be a Giant. That helped a lot."
The Giants have already made their comeback in the series where they were first defeated by the Phillies in the series with 2-1 win over them. With Lincecum back in the side, the Giants are looking forward to the bigger games.
Beltran is expected to initiate a brilliant career start as part of the Giants when he will make a debut on Thursday against the Phillies. Being a strong side itself, the Phillies will prove to be a tough start for Beltran.
There were initially rumours that the Phillies had also approached Beltran for a deal. When Beltran was asked about it, he stated that he was ready for any of the two teams that approached.
“I never got involved in the negotiations. They never approached me about Philadelphia,” Beltran said. “The only team they approached me about was the Giants, yesterday.”
Being a very talented player, Beltran also inspires much admiration from the Phillies as well.
“He was deserving of that contract,” said Phillies out-fielder Raul Ibanez, who played with Beltran for three seasons in Kansas City. “Not many people saw Carlos play every day in Kansas City the way I did.”
Beltran had been part of the Cincinnati Reds for quite a while now, having played more than 44 games for his former team. He has been a regular contributor to the winning side, having scored 31 runs in the 44 games he played for the Reds this year.
Beltran holds an average of .275 this year, testifying the fact that his presence will strengthen the San Francisco Giants as well.
Carlos will be bringing with him a lot of experience and a winning desire that will help the Giants in different aspects of their game. With Beltran now part of the Giants, it will be interesting to see how he makes his debut and what kind of performance
he puts against the Phillies, which in itself is a test for the player. Only time will tell what kind of an impact Beltran will have on the Giants for the remainder of this year.
