San Francisco Giants hammer Chicago Cubs 7-5 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants hammered the Chicago Cubs 7-5 in the third and last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, September 2 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
The Cubs’ played poorly from the start of the game and lost with bitter humiliation. Their entire team looked tired in the field as they did not play an attacking game.
On the other hand, the Giants’ were aggressive in the field. They pitched and batted extremely well as they edged past the Cubs with ease.
"We've been playing very well on the road, These were hard-fought games that could have gone either way. It's all about trying to get a series. If you do that, you'll have a decent year," Giants' manager Bruce Bochy said.
The entire Giants’ batting line-up contributed in their team’s victory. They showed enormous amount of courage and won the game in style.
Centre fielder Angel Pagan added one run and smashed two hits on his five at-bats. He played well and did not show any loop-holes in his game. He also ran for two RBIs while his slugging percentage was also remained consistent at .440.
Left fielder Xavier Nady also played well for the Giants as he scored two runs on two hits. He batted two times and maintained his slugging percentage at .308.
Along with batters, the Giants' pitchers also played well and earned a great victory for their team.
Starting pitcher Matt Cain pitched five innings and received five runs and six hits. He struck-out six while he received one homer on his 2.98 ERA.
"There's a feeling in the dugout, that even when things aren't going right, we still feel like we're in the game, I've been on teams before where you're down runs and you don't feel like you're in it anymore. This team feels like no matter what the score is, they're gonna keep going out and find ways to score runs," said Giants' starter Matt Cain.
Relief pitcher Jose Mijares pitched one inning and did not receive any hit or run on his 4.35 ERA and proved one of the winning factors for the San Francisco Giants.
