San Francisco Giants hammer St. Louis Cardinals 6-1 in Game-6 of NLCS – MLB Recap
San Francisco Giants hammered the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1 in Game 6 of their seven-match National League Championship Series on Sunday, October 21 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California.
With this win, the Giants levelled the series 3-3 while the final and decisive encounter between these two teams of the game will be played on Monday, October 22 at AT&T Park. Detroit Tigers have already qualified to play the World Series finale.
"The one thing I know is these guys take these ones hard, We've had a number of losses this season that felt like we've been kicked in the gut as we're walking off the field. What I have admired about this club is they show up tomorrow the exact same guys that they showed up here today," Cardinals' manager Mike Matheny said after the game and explained about his team’s overall performance.
Matheny added, "We've had some games where we stack on runs and then we go absolutely hitless almost, for a while, or anything of impact, But at any day we know that our offense can pull out quite a bit of production. Hopefully it's (Monday)."
Giants came to this particular game 3-2 down, but as the match started, they put the Cardinals under pressure and eventually proved too good for them.
Their entire roster played aggressive and rattled the Cardinals with great force. Giants’ upfront batters and starting rotation showed their true attacking plays which provided their team with a great win.
Giants’ starter Ryan Vogelsong pitched with terrific pace and won in style. He did not allow the Cardinals' batters to dominate instead he kept them under pressure which eventually proved one of the winning factors for the Giants.
Vogelsong pitched seven innings and received one run on four hits. He struck-out nine and maintained his ERA at 1.29. Not only he did well on the mound but he also supported relief pitchers with enormous authority.
Relief pitcher Jeremy Affeldt pitched 0.2 innings received only one hit. He pitched in right areas during his short spell and struck-out one Cardinals’ batter.
