San Francisco Giants hammer St. Louis Cardinals 7-5 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants hammered the 2011 World Series Champions St. Louis Cardinals 7-5 in the final game of their two-match regular series encounter on Thursday, May 17 at AT&T Park, San Francisco in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
With this win, the series is now levelled with each team winning 1-1.
Giants’ pitcher Matt Cain proved the real difference in his team’s comeback win on Thursday as he stood tall against the Cardinals’ offensive batting lineup for six innings.
He pitched diligently for six innings and went with four runs along with four earned runs, eight hits, struck-out six and one homer.
"Matt was out of sorts there early. He was just out of synch, just trying to find himself, He got better. That shows you how tough this guy is. He ended up pitching a pretty good game. It was nice to get him a win like that with all the tough games he's worked where we couldn't get him runs." Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy said for Cain, whose performance certainly gave them a wonderful win against much bigger rivals.
Though the game was played on high pace, but the Cardinals just could not performed up-to their potential and lost bitterly in the end.
"That's not the kind of defense we've been accustomed to seeing this year and not the kind of defense we're going to see the rest of the way," manager Mike Matheny said. "It's just one of those games."
The Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright did not enjoy his particular outing in which he gave five important runs to his opposing batters and which literally proved lethal in the end.
Though reliever Kyle McClellan also gave two runs, but the Giants were already in wining position at bottom seventh.
With this defeat, though the Cardinals position has not changed, but their winning percentage definitely decreased as now it stands at .579.
On the other hand, this win certainly gave the Giants a good morale boosting spell as they now sitting comfortable at second position in the National League West with 19-19 win loss record and .500 winning percentage.
