San Francisco Giants hammered by Cincinnati Reds 0-9 in Game 1 of NLDS – MLB Recap
San Francisco Giants were hammered by the Cincinnati Reds 0-9 in game one of National League Divisional Series on Sunday, October 7 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California.
"You hate to get beat like that, especially at home. It happened. We know where we're at right now. We know our backs are to the wall. ... They've done a great job all year bouncing back,” Giants' manager Bruce Bochy said.
Giants’ upfront pitchers were hammered by the Reds’ talented hitters during the crucial moments of the game which eventually proved wonderful for them.
"We need to go to their place and play aggressive and try to change the momentum, Keep fighting, you never know what's going to happen. Their momentum is really good right now," Giants' second baseman Marco Scutaro said.
Reds on the other hand, played with great temperament and outclassed the Giants with ease.
"Coming on the road, you think about getting one as a success and victory, To be able come here and get two is very important," Jay Bruce said.
Starter Madison Bumgarner pitched over four innings and received seven hits and four runs. He received one homer and struck-out only four Reds potential batters on his rising 8.31 ERA.
He was the one player from the Giants, who literally lost his composure during his spell. He could have played much better but the Reds’ batters just did not let him settle on the mound.
Along with Giants’ starter Bumgarner, Jose Mijares was also hammered with three runs and two hits.
Later closer Guillermo Mota also performed badly as he pitched 0.2 innings and allowed two runs and three hits on his 18.00 ERA.
Reds’ pitchers remained consistent and certainly won the game for their team.
Bronson Arroyo pitched seven innings and received only one hit. He struck-out four while he also kept the Giants’ batters under pressure and eventually won the game in style.
J.J. Hoover also played well and hammered the Giants’ hitters with big force. He did not receive any run or hit and struck-out one in his one inning spell.
