San Francisco Giants humiliated by New York Mets 1-9 in series finale – MLB Update
San Francisco Giants were humiliated by the New York Mets 1-9 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California on Thursday, August 2 in the finale of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Left fielder Jason Bay had a two run RBI in the first to put the Mets on the board. Second baseman Ronny Cedeno and third baseman David Wright also made useful contributions with the bat in the first and the second as New York extended their lead to 5-0.
"This is the same team that went on a massive skid and came in here and took three of four from a first-place team," Bay said. "It is frustrating because it's there sometimes and it's not other times."
Cedeno continued to put pressure on Giants’ struggling rotation and he drove in runs in the fifth and the seventh to end the game on an extremely aggressive note for the Mets.
Giants’ starter Barry Zito paid the price for his off target fastballs and sliders. Overall, he gave up six hits and seven runs in just over four innings to take his eighth loss of the season.
"I'm seeing the ball well and trying to hit my pitch," Cedeno said. "I just want to be more patient and just see ball, hit ball."
Leaders of National League West Division, the Giants will be extremely disappointed with their performance in the series against Mets. They were 55-46 when they entered the series on July 30. After losing three out of four games, they are now tied for the
first place with Los Angeles Dodgers on the league standings table.
It will be interesting to see if they can learn lessons from their mistakes to come up with a solid show in their next series against the Colorado Rockies.
Mets edged their opponents 8-7 in series opener and they displayed some top quality baseball skills in Game 3. Dominating their rivals 9-1 in the finale, the Mets improved to 52-54. However, they still have a lot of work to do to catch the National League
East leaders Washington Nationals.
