San Francisco Giants humiliated by Washington Nationals 2-14 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants were humiliated by the Washington Nationals 2-14 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, August 13 at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
Giants played poorly from start of the game and lost in the end with bitter humiliation. They did not show any fighting spirit and could not save the game for their team.
San Francisco experienced players failed miserable against the fast and curving pitches of Nationals’ starting rotation.
They all were only able to score two runs against the Nationals and lost bitterly in the end. It was Nationals pitchers who dominated the entire game.
Starter Gio Gonzalez pitched 6.2 innings and proved too good against the Giants’ batters. He allowed two runs and six hits along. He was smashed for only one homer as his ERA remained consistent at 3.29 ERA.
“Most importantly they came up big and gave me something to work with, my thought from the get-go was just to maintain, especially with the pitcher they had today. He's not an easy guy to go out there and get a couple of runs off of, and right off the bat,
these guys are swinging the bat. Can't complain with some runs," Gonzalez said with confidence and told the media with joy.
Gonzalez added and explained about his performance which proved tremendous for his team, "I just tried to pound the strike zone, Last inning started wearing on me a little bit, but that's why you have a great bullpen, to clean up my mess."
Tom Gorzelanny also played well for the Nationals as he pitched 2.1 innings and allowed two hits with no run. He struck-out three and his ERA remained consistent at 3.21.
On the other hand, Giants’ pitchers were not up-to the mark as they all allowed 14 runs which literally proved disastrous for them as they lost by a huge margin.
Relief pitcher Ryan Vogelsong pitched 2.2 innings and allowed eight runs and nine hits on his 2.72 ERA.
The Giants will be looking to put in a much better performance in the next game of the series. Washington will be feeling very confident as they comprehensively beat the Giants.
