San Francisco Giants ink deal with New York Yankees for catcher Chris Stewart – MLB News
The San Francisco Giants seem ready for the big action of fresh 2012 Major League Baseball season as they recently took a bold decision of sending catcher Chris Stewart to his former team New York Yankees.
Chris Stewart, who played with the Giants in 2011 MLB season, was traded from the San Diego Padres while he previously also played for the New York Yankees, Texas Rangers and Chicago White Sox earning a name of a role player for his game.
Stewart, at batting average of .200 along with three career home runs, 13 RBIs and .273 OBP, is considered a typical defensive player who sometimes also provide backup to his team.
Most of the teams he played in the past gained enormous advantage of his Minor League experience. He has also played some very peak years of his in the Minor League and did perform relatively satisfactory.
On his trade to the Yankees, Stewart said with slight detail explaining, “It's sad to leave. But anytime you know someone wants you, it's a good opportunity. Everyone was first class, They treated me well. Obviously, everyone knew what he could do at the plate. He opened eyes even more defensively, blocking balls, calling games. He definitely earned it.”
Later the Giants manager Bruce Bochy also stated in the media regarding this trade. He said, “We hammed-and-egged it with those two, stayed in first place until the first of August, The Yankees have been asking for a while. They got a little bit more aggressive recently. The way the team was shaking up, we thought we could make this move."
Some say this latest Giants’ trade has opened up several other doors for them to try a different strategy that will allow them to come up with more consistent results next season.
For an instance, in spite of getting a new catcher, they can bring in a designated hitter in the team to provide little stability down in the batting order. The Giants management might trade some more players in the mid season or All Star break that will eventually provide them with some kind of good and hard hitting player who will further carry forward the tough start.
