San Francisco Giants lose 1-3 to St. Louis Cardinals in game three of NLCS – MLB Recap
San Francisco Giants suffered a humiliating 1-3 defeat from the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 3 of National League Championship Series on Wednesday, October 17 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.
"I thought it was a classic Kyle Lohse, just pitching, Kyle Lohse, from the opening day of the season, has been such a steady starter for us,” Mike Matheny said on his team’s performance with great jubilation.
Giants are behind 1-2 in the seven-match series. From start of the game, the San Francisco side could not match the Cardinals’ offensive pitching and lost the game with bitter humiliation.
Their batters and hitters did not play well and allowed too many openings during the entire match.
Cardinals’ on the other hand, played much better and did not repeat the mistakes they did in Game 2 of the ALCS.
Consequently it helped tremendously as they edged past the Giants with great ease.
Giants struggled from start of the match and remained under pressure later stages of the game as well.
Starter Matt Cain pitched 6.2 innings and received three runs and six hits. He was hit with a home-run on his 4.05 ERA while he was only able to strike-out two Cardinals' hitters.
"That's what you want, is to have a lot of opportunities. Today we just came up a little short. I made a bad pitch and it cost us, We have to make good pitches, and that's what I failed to do," Cain said.
He added, "It might affect what you're trying to do because you don't know his weaknesses, But you've still got to make good pitches and that's what I failed to do."
Though Cain pitched quite poorly during his spell, but overall, Giants' batters also could not perform well and did not support their starter. Instead they all scored only one run in the entire nine outings.
Centre fielder Angel Pagan played some good hits as he scored one run and smashed one hit on his five at-bats but overall his performance also could not bring any good for the Giants.
