San Francisco Giants lose to New York Mets 4-5 – MLB Update
San Francisco Giants lost to New York Mets 4-5 at the Citi Field in New York, NY on Saturday, April 22 in second game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball. The Mets will be very pleased with the way they conducted themselves in a pressure game.
For the Mets, Mike Pelfrey pitched eight solid innings to help the Mets take 4-1 lead early on. His Giants’ counterpart Ryan Vogelsong was unable to live up to the expectations as his team fell behind. Ruben Tejada will be very pleased with the fact he scored the winning run on a throwing error by Buster Posey.
"I was coming from a long way out, and it's my ball all the way and I just overran it," Rookie Centre Fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis said. "I thought it was going to be closer to the infield and it ended up carrying a lot more than I thought."
"I had faith in my teammates to pick me up but, at the same time, Pelfrey deserved that win," Nieuwenhuis said.
"I'm going to talk to Frankie tomorrow," Mets Manager Collins said of Frank Francisco who was pulled in the ninth. "He's not happy with what happened, but remember, he's as new at this as anyone else."
Both teams displayed some high quality baseball skill but it was pity that one had to lose. The Giants hung on until the very last minute but they were unable to cross the winning line. The running season has proved to be a disappointing one for the Giants in many ways.
The biggest problem for them has been finding consistency in their game play. San Francisco has done well in some games but they have looked completely out of sorts in the others.
Giants’ defeat at the hands of the Mets on Saturday evening damaged their win-loss record to 7-7. It is only the first month of 2012 season and if the Giants can lift their sprits, they can surely end the season on a positive note. The series is now levelled at 1-1 and it will be interesting to see if they can bounce back in third game to take the lead.
