San Francisco Giants lose to Washington Nationals 3-9 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants lost to Washington Nationals 3-9 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, July 3 at Nationals Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Nationals’ played a combined game and never let the Giants to take control at any point of the match. Not only did the batters perform tremendously, but the Nationals’ pitchers also played a key role in their team’s great win.
Jordan Zimmermann tossed six solid innings and received seven hits and two runs. He only received one earned run and struck-out seven Giants’ hitters. His ERA remained consistent at 2.70.
"It's nice. They're starting to come around and score early, and give you a little room to breathe out there. If they keep hitting the way they're hitting now, I don't see why we can't just run away with this in the second half, If we keep pitching the way we are, it's going to be tough to beat us." Zimmermann said with confidence on his particular performance which proved one of the winning factors for the Nationals.
Tim Lincecum on the other hand, played poorly and certainly lost the game for the Giants.
He pitched 3.1 innings and received nine hits and eight runs along with seven earned runs with one homer. He looked uncomfortable on the mound as his ERA rose to 6.08.
"I think it's just coming here and dealing with the heat -- it's not like it's anything different than what we've dealt with -- it just got the better of me today a little bit," Lincecum said on his bad outing.
Nationals’ senior players also did their part to help the team take this important victory. Centre-fielder Bryce Harper batted well on his five at bats with a single and two hits along with an RBI.
Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman scored two runs while short-stop Ian Desmond made two on two hits along with a couple of RBIs.
In the meanwhile, it is a healthy sign for the Nationals that they got an early win in the series as it will help them finish the series against the Giants on a high note.
