San Francisco Giants lose to Washington Nationals 5-6 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants lost to the Washington Nationals 5-6 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Thursday, July 5 at Nationals Park.
Giants lost three games in a row from the Nationals and now dropped to second place in the National League West behind Los Angeles Dodgers.
Starter Matt Cain, relief pitcher Jeremy Affeldt and closer Santiago Casilla played poorly and could not save the game for the Giants.
Cain was hit for three runs on six hits as he also gave three earned runs and got four strike-outs.
Affeldt gave one run and three hits along with one earned run. Later closer Casilla came to pitch his 0.2 innings spell as he was also smashed for two runs, two hits along with one earned run.
No player from Giants' roster played well and tried to give their team little support instead all performed with low energy and low enthusiasm.
On the other hand, the Nationals played as one unit and kept the pressure on the Giants. Leaving them with no chance to bounce back in the last inning of game, the Nationals finished the contest with enormous power and won it with style.
First baseman Adam LaRoche played well for the Nationals as his last inning performance certainly won the game for the Nationals.
LaRoche said, "Not the way we drew it up, but we will take it, I was running as fast as I can -- which isn't very fast -- but it was good enough to put a little pressure on him. I was going to shoot then with my bow, I think I got one before I got tackled."
Later Ryan Zimmerman commented on Adam’s play and said, "Hopefully Adam's fast enough. Hopefully they mess up, Those are the things that have happened to us this year, We've had some opportunities and we've caught some breaks, and more importantly we've taken advantage of those breaks, and good teams do that."
Not only the batters but the Nationals' starter Ross Detwiler played well. He pitched five innings and received three runs on eleven hits. He only gave three earned runs as his ERA remained 3.43 in the Nationals’ win.
