San Francisco Giants oust Washington Nationals 8-0 – MLB news
San Francisco Giants defeated the Washington Nationals 8-0 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, May 20 at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
The Giants played as one unit and hammered the Nationals with great force. Their batters played wonderfully and scored on consistent bases.
“Last night after the game he came in and was in the locker room and banged his glove against his locker with his hand in it, His hand didn't swell up but when he went out to throw today his hand swelled up and he couldn't throw the ball,” Nationals manager
Davey Johnson.
Along with batters, the Giants pitchers also pitched quite attackingly and won the game with great style. Their entire pitching roster did not allow a single run during the entire game and prepared a solid base for the team in the three-match clash.
Giants’ manager tried five pitchers and all of them did a wonderful job on the mound. Ryan Vogelsong started the game for the Giants as he pitched first five innings. He received three hits but allowed no run on 7.19 ERA. He struck out two as he replaced
by relief pitcher Javier Lopez in the top of sixth inning.
“We're not talking about Tommy John or anything here,” Vogelsong said, his eyes misty. “Basically as fast as we can get it to heal so I can start throwing again.”
Lopez pitched 1.1 innings as he struck out three on his consistent 2.31 ERA. Later closer Jean Machi tossed 0.2 innings and maintained his 2.08 ERA.
Along with pitchers, the Giants upfront batting line-up also did very well on the plate and helped their team win a wonderfully first game of the series.
Centre fielder Angel Pagan scored one run on two hits. He ran for three RBIs on five at bats while he also maintained his slugging percentage of .361.
First baseman Brandon Belt was brilliant in the field. He played an attacking role in his team’s thrashing victory over the Nationals.
He scored total four runs on four hits on five at bats. Belt ran for an RBI and maintained his slugging percentage of .449.
