San Francisco Giants’ pitcher Matt Cain wants contract negotiation before Opening Day
Lately the Major League Baseball authorities have been observing a relatively bizarre situation by some of the professional players on contract negotiation issues.
If compared this situation with the scenario of 2011, many will understand as how smooth last season’s signings were. Contract and extension issues had resolved without any delay. No major player and franchise showed any reluctance going into negotiation or extending any player’s contract last season.
However, this season, many contract extension issues and talks between players and their franchises are still pending with no real sense of having resolved soon. Recently, the San Francisco Giants’ starting pitcher Matt Cain has also stated in the media about his contract negotiation with the franchise.
“I believe both sides would like to have something resolved, whether that's signing back or not," Cain said. “Once the season starts, I want to be thinking about the next season. That's my main goal. We're listening to anything that's of fair value,"
Later the Giants’ team president and CEO Larry Baer said for Cain’s contract, "All I will say is that if there are conversations, that are a good thing, we care about all of our players, and the homegrown players, obviously, carry some special qualities. Matt or any of our guys are people that we're going to put big energy into."
Cain wants a long term contract, but the Giants’ management is showing the real lack of enthusiasm in his contract talks while both sides are yet to sign a new deal. The main reason why the Giants’ are reluctant to give a long term contract as they recently have given two players some new deals and are now feeling slightly low budgeted.
On contrary to his contract extension, Cain certainly is a good player. His fast throwing is known to everyone in the League and if he does not get any potential extension, he will be playing for some other team in the League from next season onwards.
Still, if the Giants do consider Cain’s importance and gave him a lengthy contract, this will automatically help them to show better results next season.
