San Francisco Giants pound Cincinnati Reds 6-4 in Game 5 of NLDS – MLB Recap
San Francisco Giants pounded the Cincinnati Reds 6-4 in Game 5 of their five-match National League Division Series encounter on Thursday, October 11 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
"You don't want to be in a lose-and-you're-out scenario. We've been in that situation for three days. We're probably going to sleep well tonight,” reliever Jeremy Affeldt said.
Later shortstop Brandon Crawford said, "We could go up against anybody at any time, Being down 2-0 and coming back and winning three at their place, it's an unbelievable feeling."
Giants played beautifully and earned a great victory in the end. They kept the Reds under pressure and did not allow them to dominate during the entire game.
With this win, the Giants now went ahead into the National League title matchup.
"You get tired of the disappointments, but then you get over it, It hurts big-time," manager Dusty Baker said.
"It was a spectacular moment," outfielder Hunter Pence said.
Giants’ pitchers and batters played offensively and rattled the Reds in the decisive game of NLDS.
Starter Matt Cain pitched over five innings and received three runs on six hits. He struck-out five and remained persistent on his 5.06 ERA.
Along with starter Cain, the other Giants' pitchers also played well and supported him towards the end.
Closer Sergio Romo pitched 1.1 innings and received one run and two hits. He struck-out one while his ERA remained consistent at 2.08.
On the other hand, the Reds' pitchers could not play their natural game and lost in the end. They could have played much better but overall the Giants' hitters remained solid on the plate and won the game in style.
“Buster Posey's swing was a series-changer, That made it very difficult to come back. You know they're going to throw the kitchen sink at us," said Reds' star Joey Votto.
Mat Latos pitched 4.1 innings and received six runs and seven hits. He struck-out four and received one homer on his 6.48 ERA. Latos could not capitalise on his fast pitching strengths and lost the game for his team.
