San Francisco Giants re-sign outfielder Angel Pagan – MLB Update
San Francisco Giants’ have taken their time re-signing Angel Pagan. The centre fielder was also seeking a potential long term deal with the team with whom he won the 2012 World Series Championship.
Now reports are coming in the media that both sides have agreed on a mutual understanding. Giants’ have given Pagan a four-year deal pending a physical.
Pagan and Giants have been busy talking on a decent contract since the 2012 Major League Baseball season ended. Earlier it was expected that Pagan might sign elsewhere but as the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings begun in Nashville, the Giants changed their stance to let him go and instead they signed him to a four-year deal.
"It's a great feeling to have him back, He's a great fit for us. That's a pretty big need when you need a center fielder and a leadoff hitter, and this took care of both," manager Bruce Bochy said as he explained about the recent re-signing of Angel Pagan.
"The fact that he plays such a key role at the top of the order and in the middle (of the diamond) was a huge motivator, In (Scutaro), you have the ability to play second, third and even shortstop, That gives him an additional market. Any time you have a year like he had, it's going to make clubs look long and hard," Giants' vice president of baseball operations Bobby Evans said.
Coming from New York Mets, Angel Pagan played last season with the San Francisco Giants. He finished with .288 hitting average along with eight homers, 56 RBIs and .338 OBP.
He did impress the Giants and played a vital role in winning the most coveted prize for them in the biggest baseball league in the world.
With the Giants, from start of the season, he showed enormous progress on his defence and never gave any chance to any of his opponents during the entire regular as well as in the post-season.
Experts believe that Pagan’s re-signing is a healthy sign for the Giants. In his presence, the Giants will enter more confidently in the next Major League outing.
