San Francisco Giants ready to face St. Louis Cardinals in decisive clash of NLCS – MLB Update
San Francisco Giants are preparing hard for their final game-seven clash with the St. Louis Cardinals in National League Championship Series on Monday, October 22 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California.
Game 6 of NLCS was a thriller when the Giants overwhelmed the Cardinals and levelled the series 3-3 as they forced them to play again at AT&T Park.
“Having a lot of guys that are used to competing in that situation is a benefit, [The Giants] have guys that have done it, too. They have a lot of experience. I think that's one of the things that makes tomorrow night intriguing. I don't think you're going to see a choke job,” sidelined Cardinals' star Lance Berkman said.
Cardinals on the other hand, were looking to wrap-up things as they already won three games in the series while another game could have given them an opportunity to defend their World Series title against the Detroit Tigers.
Tigers have already qualified to play the World Series finale after the crushed the New York Yankees with 4-0 hammering.
Now since the series has been levelled, both teams want their best man to pitch. Giants know that their All-Star experienced pitcher Matt Cain is all set to start this crucial game.
"For some reason it seems like I wouldn't say we like it, but it seems like guys are playing really well when we get in this situation, Guys are just kind of letting it all hang out and it seems to be working out really well." Cain said as he explained about his planning to get into the final play on Monday night.
Cain has already played in this seven-match series when he pitched in game-three against the Cardinals' Kyle Lohse.
Though that particular game was a disappointment for the seven year veteran as he lost it with bitter humiliation, but now, as Cain understands the significance of this coming game, he is feeling more energetic and wants to do well.
On October 17, in Wednesday’s Game 3 of NLCS, Cain pitched 6.2 innings and allowed three runs and three hits while his ERA also rose to 4.05.
