San Francisco Giants rout Atlanta Braves 9-0 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants defeated the Atlanta Braves 9-0 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, July 17 at Turner Field in Atlanta.
This was the fourth straight win for the Giants’ as they already defeated the Houston Astros in their first series of the second half of the regular season.
In Tuesday’s game, the Giants’ played terrifically and never gave any chance to their opponents to score even a single run.
Their experienced hitters proved their valour and rattled the Braves in the end.
The 2012 National League All-Star and Giants' left-fielder Melky Cabrera played tremendously as he made two runs on two hits along with a RBI.
Catcher Buster Posey made five RBIs on his three hits as he provided a solid beginning to the Giants as they slowly build a stronger lead and eventually won in the end.
Posey said, "I think I was a little more relaxed, for sure, I don't get the chance to play before people I grew up with very often."
Later manager Bruce Bochy said about his player, “Growing up here in Georgia, I'm sure he had a lot of family and friends here, he had a good game for them, I noticed his numbers here haven't been too good."
Not only batters played well but pitchers also performed tremendously and proved a winning combination for the Giants.
Starter Barry Zito pitched seven innings and finished scoreless on three hits. He retired four as his ERA remained consistent at 3.75.
Zito said, "I don't think there's a whole lot to it, It's a fun place to pitch."
Later George Kontos and Clay Hensley also performed well for the Giants and finished their respective spells with great accuracy.
On the other hand, Astros' starter Jair Jurrjens could not save the game for his team. He was smashed with eight important runs.
Jurrjens said, "It was a tough one, We just didn't get it done like a team, I didn't make pitches, we didn't hit, we didn't field. That's a team loss."
He also gave eight earned runs on eight hits while his ERA rose to 6.20 in the Astros defeat.
