San Francisco Giants rout Colorado Rockies 8-6 – MLB Recap
San Francisco Giants defeated the Colorado Rockies 8-6 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, May 16 at Coors Field in Colorado.
The 2013 World Series winners rattled the Rockies with heavy hitting. Their entire roster remained confident on the plate and hammered the Rockies pitchers.
“When you get six early off a guy like Cain you've got to be able to put him away,” Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. “You've got a guy who's one of the better pitchers in the league; you've got to get to him early. You've got to be able to put him away and
not hang around.”
Experienced centre fielder Angel Pagan played a vital role in his team’s win. He ran for two important RBIs on his .373 slugging percentage. He played well against the Rockies starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin and helped his team win a first game of the series.
Hunter Pence on the other end did his part and played well with two runs on four at bats. He hit hard and remained consistent with his .497 slugging percentage. First baseman Brandon Belt contributed with his two runs and single RBI on three at bats.
Although the Giants pitchers were also hammered with huge hits, yet they managed to sneak past all the Rockies upfront batters receiving only six runs.
Starting pitcher Matt Cain pitched six runs on eight hits. He tossed 6.1 innings and receiving three homers on 5.43 ERA.
“Playing in this ballpark, there are some runs out there,” Cain said. “That's not always a fun thing, but it's something you always know. Runs can come in bunches here.”
Later, the Giants relief pitchers took the responsibility and did not allow any further runs and proved one of the winning factors for the San Francisco Giants.
On the other hand, the Rockies starter Jhoulys Chacin pitched one of the worst first five innings of this regular season. He allowed eight runs on nine hits along with eight earned runs on 4.07 ERA. Although he was replaced by the reliever Adam Ottavino,
yet it was too late for the Rockies to recover as they lost bitterly in the end.
