San Francisco Giants’ second baseman Freddy Sanchez looking to regain form – MLB News
San Francisco Giants’ second baseman Freddy Sanchez is more determined than ever to stay healthy and put in a good performance on the field during the 2011 Major League Baseball season.
Having suffered from a left shoulder and a left knee injury, Sanchez missed 38 regular season games last year. During the offseason, Sanchez underwent arthroscopic surgery on his shoulder which was quite successful. He has managed to work-out and gain significant
strength to be ready for the field during the season. Sanchez is looking to put in a tremendous effort to get back to his original self and provide a positive contribution to the Giants during the regular season.
Sanchez had a decent performance in his Cactus League debut as the Giants lost to the Chicago Cubs. He had a good opportunity to get a feel of being on the field again and Spring Training will give him ample time to get back into shape.
He looked good during his on field presence and is exciting to getting back into form to play full time for the Giants. Sanchez believes that he gains significant confidence when his strength improves and he is able to regain some of his previous efforts.
Freddy is spending a tremendous amount of time in the batting cages to bring up his swing. It seems that he is determined to play during the entire season as long as his shoulder holds up. Sanchez understands the importance of being healthy and being able
to play as many games during the regular season as possible.
Sanchez is no stranger to performing at the highest levels, as in 2006 he managed to win the National League batting title with an impressive average of .344 for the year. The Giants would love to see that type of performance from him again to boost their
offence during the regular season.
"I know what I'm capable of, I know what I've done and I know what I can do if I'm healthy for a full year," he said. "That's the goal this year. I don't put numbers on my goal. Play the best I can play, hit as high as I can hit, help the team win as many
games as I can and play as good of defense as I can. I feel like if I do that and stay healthy, I'll achieve what I want and we'll achieve as a team what we want."
It will be interesting to see how Sanchez manages to get back into shape and put in a decent performance on the field to contribute to the Giants quest during the upcoming regular season.
