San Francisco
Giants shutout Oakland Athletics 4-0 – MLB Update
San Francisco Giants shutout Oakland Athletics 4-0 at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Saturday, May 19 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. In some ways the win will be of great importance for the
Giants as it helped them stay over the .500 win percentage mark.
For the Giants, Ryan Vogelsong had an absolutely memorable time on the mound as he allowed just one hit in seven scoreless innings to help his team establish complete control over the contest. In a display of dominant throwing, the starting pitcher retired
the first 13 batters he faced and gave up just an infield single and San Francisco beat the Athletics for the 11th straight time at their home.
Melky Cabrera, Buster Posey and Angel Pan helped the Giants score four runs in the seventh after they scored none in the first six innings.
"I wasn't acting. Something hit me in the chest, whether it was my bat or the ball, something made contact with me," Vogelsong said. "I didn't know what it was. I thought I got hit."
"I knew he was bunting. I tried to elevate a fastball to try and induce a popup or maybe get a double play. It kind of got away from me a little bit," Athletics’ starting pitcher Tyson Ross said. "I saw it hit the bat but the umpire saw it differently. That
was a big spot in the game. Unfortunately he was awarded the base."
San Francisco had a decent time in the opening game too when they secure a narrow 8-6 win to dent their rivals’ confidence levels. Their win on Saturday’s evening has given them an impassable 2-0 lead in the series and it will be interesting to see if they
can continue their excellent form throughout the season to make it to the World Series finals.
The Athletics had several scoring opportunities in the game but they were unable to convert any of them and hence paid the price. Oakland are now 20-21 and they will have to come up with a brilliant plan in the finale to avoid the series sweep.
