San Francisco Giants sign infielder Ryan Theriot – MLB News
The San Francisco Giants have signed former St. Louis Cardinals infielder Ryan Theriot for a one year non-guaranteed contract worth $1.25 million. Other details of the deal were not revealed in the media however, his one year deal is linked with an invitation from the Major League team in San Francisco.
Former player of the Cardinals, who has also played for the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers, Ryan Theriot, has some extraordinary skills which will help the Giants roster in order to attain consistent results next season. His potential arrival in the roster also will enhance the winning capability of Giants on the whole.
Having a healthy career batting average of .282 along with some 17 homers, 229 total RBIs and .344, Theriot knows his next duty in the Giants roster where some heavy strategic changes need to be take place ahead the 2012 season. His presence will also ensure a strong batting backup upfront.
Experts believe, he is a good hitter and has always played at his best potential. For his own consistent game, Theriot has said in the past that,
“I feel like I can help by getting on base for the big guys and playing multiple positions and taking pride in my defence. I have embraced the role, and you got to have guys like that on teams that win. You can do is all you can do. I feel like I've done what I can. Whatever happens, it's going to be in the best interest of the team and franchise. My ultimate goal is winning a World Series. If that means going to wherever to help this organization win, I've done that for years. It is a little nerve-wrecking.”
Even in the last season playing with the Cardinals, Theriot batted at .271 including one homer, 47 RBIs and OBP of .321. Looking at his past performance, Theriot will surely prove a trump card for the Giants. Last year, the Giants went with .531 winning behind the Arizona Diamondbacks as to clinch the West Division in the National League, they certainly will want to focus on their pitching and hitting departments.
