San Francisco Giants slip to Philadelphia Phillies 3-4 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants defeated by Philadelphia Phillies 3-4 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, July 22 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
Short-stop Jimmy Rollins played well for the Phillies and helped his team grab a decent victory against the Giants’ top offence.
Rollins said after the game on his performance as well as on his team’s great effort, “I always look forward to it, I've faced Brad Penny a lot. I had an idea what he wanted to do. That's not a role he's used to. We have the horses now, we're getting back to full strength the pitchers have been doing a good job.”
Left fielder John Mayberry Jr. played well for the Phillies as he scored two runs on two hits along with two RBIs as his slugging percentage remained consistent at .397.
Along with hitters, the Phillies' pitchers also played well and never gave any chance to the Giants’ batting line-up to score freely.
Phillies’ starter Joe Blanton pitched eight innings and gave only three runs. He also gave three earned runs on seven hits while his ERA remained consistent at 4.70.
"Everybody here is trying to win games play the best we can, Anything that happens is out of our control," Blanton said.
Blanton added, “It's something I got kind of used to, I got used to it in Oakland. Oakland is an organization that trades players a lot, so I've been used to it my whole career."
On the other hand, the Giants did not play well and could not save the game. Not only their hitters but their pitchers also looked tired and played with low energy.
Starter Barry Zito was hammered with three quick runs on five hits. He pitched seven innings and received three earned runs along with two homers.
Whereas their only batter who looked determined was right fielder Nate Schierholtz as he scored two runs, two RBIs on two hits. However, even his fine play was not enough for the Giants to oust their opponents as they defeated in the end with much humiliation.
