San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner gets extension – MLB News
The San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner has received six-year extension in his existing contract worth $35.56 million leaving all the disagreements behind between two sides which earlier created a slight buzz in the San Francisco baseball franchise.
“Now I can go out there and just pitch," Madison said. "It kind of took the weight off my shoulders. Who knows how good we can be? I think we can be just as good, if not better."
Recently news has hit in the local media that the Giants’ management is taking some steps forward regarding its senior players’ contract extensions which were already promised in the offseason and the latest development seems linked to that particular promises.
"We've made no secret of our strategy. Our strategy is to lock up as many homegrown players as we can, It doesn't mean we're going to be able to lock up every homegrown player." said Giants President and CEO Larry Baer.
This is a good sign for the Giants as they agreed to extend their experience player’s contract further for six years. This will also prove beneficial for them in this year’s Major League Baseball season.
On contrary to Bumgarner’s extension, the Giants manager Bruce Bochy has enlightened this type of development on more positive note explaining, “It's hard to believe he's 22 years old, to have two-fifths of our rotation tied up (long term), that's always a good thing.”
Bumgarner is a good player. Since he joined the Giants in 2009, he has been playing an active role for the team. His pitching has improved a lot. Back then when he was just known as backup player in the roster, his fast throws were not that good as he received enormous amount of hitting from average players.
However, with every season into the biggest baseball league in the world, he started to gain strength and the curve ball became his power to rattle power hitters.
Currently in 2012, he is throwing with a good pace and pitching at the rate of 3.97 ERA along with 1-1 win loss, five strikeouts and 1.32 WHIP.
