San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Matt Cain gets additional $112.5 million – MLB News
The San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Matt Cain will receive $112.5 million in addition to his earlier deal of $127.5 million on late Monday night which now secures his presence until 2017 in the South San Francisco based baseball franchise.
The Giants management knows how important Matt Cain is for the franchise. They do not want any other Major League team signing their talented pitcher in any near future. Cain is considered the best starting pitcher in the Giants’ entire roster and currently playing tremendously in this year’s Cactus League in Arizona.
Though the Spring Training is almost over and the exhibition games are underway, but still the way Cain has played during all those games is tremendous and highly commendable. His extraordinary grip and late low arm curving swing shattered many well known batters.
Cain said on his contract extension and the way Giants advanced his deal, “I think it's very rare that you see a lot of young guys through the same organization with this kind of pitching talent, It's been kind of cool because we've been able to push each other, and it's really been beneficial for both starters and relievers. We like that.
Later, also the Giants Chief Executive Officer Baer came out in the media and told the reporters. He said, “We're particularly pleased, given that Matt is a home-grown player, as so many of our stars are and it's very fulfilling to see a long-term contract in today's world of professional sports, where it's not all that common that players get drafted and stay for a long term.”
On the other hand, it is a good sign for the Giants management who certainly needed Cain for the future seasons. Giving extra money also makes sense here. Though Cain was part of the Giants World Series team in 2012 and they trusted his relation with the team, but still they were looking keen to make sure as no other team should be signing him offering some extra money. In the meanwhile, this new contract will strengthen their position in their division as well as in the League.
