San Francisco Giants still to decide over Matt Cain’s extension – MLB News
The San Francisco Giants’ are still not sure as whether to give any potential extension to their starting pitcher Matt Cain or wait for the mid season break or All Star Break.
Since the this year’s Major League Baseball Spring Training has ended with the brilliant performances of Giants veteran and highly established pitcher Cain, the media is coming up with all sorts of different stories regarding his future relationship with
the organization.
Recently to answer all this media hype about Matt Cain and his contract, the Giants’ Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Larry Baer came out in the media and talked in detail about this whole media created issue. His reply to one of the reporter reflected as the
Giants are in no hurry to talk about Matt Cain’s current contract and feeling no need at the moment even to discuss this matter in the media.
Baer said, “There's been a lot of mischaracterizations, those are uneducated. I can't promise it will or won't happen -- that's going to ultimately be the process of negotiation and Matt's decision. If the Dodgers were going to go and spend something crazy,
you'd say that's reckless. Really, nothing changes. We can't control the overall economics of a player, (This deal) has got to be something that allows us to field a team that will win."
Matt Cain later also commented in the media saying, “If the season starts, I think that's the cutoff, we're not going to drag something into the season and have that lingering over our heads.”
According to both sides’ comments, experts have concluded that it is certainly early to predict any possibility at the moment. Baer knows that this MLB season is very important for his team and on the other hand, Cain also understands this fact that the
way his game has picked pace in the Spring Training, it is very likely that the next season will bring more excellence to his game. He is already a key member of the Giants up-front offence and his game can generate more wins for the franchise in the coming
event which will automatically sustain the club’s standing in the League.
