San Francisco Giants succumb to Pittsburgh Pirates 1-3 – MLB Recap
The San Francisco Giants lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates 1-3 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, July 7 at PNC Park.
Giants could not handle James McDonald’s seven innings spell in which he received only one run on four hits. He also gave just one earned run and struck-out ten Giants’ batters as his ERA remained consistent at 2.37.
McDonald spoke in detail about his performance which proved to be one of the key factors in the Pirates victory as he said, "I want to be the guy that shows other teams that we're for real, that we do have quality players here, The baseball gods must really like me right now, Every day is a statement day.”
Giants’ starter Ryan Vogelsong did not play well. He was too way-ward with most of his deliveries. He pitched seven innings and received three runs on eight hits. He also gave three earned runs along with a homer while he was only able to strike-out five Pirates' batters.
“It happens, Obviously he's having a good season and throwing the ball well. Going in you know it's going to be a tough game. He just pitched a little bit better than me today," Vogelsong said.
Later Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said, "Straight As once again, He was very efficient. A couple of times when he got into jams, he found a way to get out of them."
With Giants’ defeat, the series is now 1-1 with one game to spare which will be played on Sunday, July 8.
The Sunday’s game will also be the last match of the first half of the season before the All-Star break.
Both teams’ however, are sitting quite comfortable in their Divisions with respect to their stats.
The Giants with a 46-39 win-loss record and .547 winning percentage is one place behind the leaders Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West Division.
On the other hand, the Pirates got in a more comfortable position as they at the moment are at the top in the National League Central Division with 47-37 win-loss record along with .560 winning percentage.
