San Francisco Giants sweep Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 – MLB Update
San Francisco Giants put in a brilliant performance to defeat Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 to sweep the series at AT&T Park, San Francisco on Thursday, May 12.
When the season started, it was hard to treat the Giants as a team that had won the World Series. Their defeats against the most easiest teams in the Major League was definitely crushing for the fans who thought that their team would be lucky enough to win
the much coveted championship title for the second year. Their start was bumpy with only a few indications that this team was the reigning World Series Champion. Although they weren’t as historically bad as the Boston Red Sox, they weren’t much better either.
That all has started to change as May unravels. The Giants defeated the Diamondbacks to win their regular season series against the team. Their victory also marked their sixth consecutive win and things finally seem to be looking up for the Giants who had
previously gone on a hitting drought even with aces like Aubrey Huff in their rotation. It seems team is finally performing worth enough to be called the reigning World Series Champions.
The first run of the game from the Giants came in the second inning as Nate Schierholtz singled towards right centre-field as Cody Ross scored off it.
There was a run drought for the next few innings and the next two runs from the Giants came in the seventh inning. The first run of the seventh inning came when Andres Torres doubled to right-field and Eli Whiteside scored off it. Another run was added to
the scoreboard when Huff singled, once again to the right and Torres scored.
As for the Diamondbacks, they couldn’t manage to put any score on the score board till the eighth inning came around. Stephen Drew managed to reach second base on an infield single as Gerardo Parra scored and Xavier Nady successfully moved himself to second
base during the action.
The next and the last run of the game came as Justin Upton singled to right-field and Nady scored off it while Drew effectively moved himself to second base during the play.
"I feel like we got outplayed this series, I got out managed and they swept us," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. "Those guys are the world champions and they showed it this series. We've got to just pick ourselves up."
It will be interesting to see how the Giants carry their winning momentum into their next match-up. Arizona put in a decent performance, but it was not enough to contain the Giants’ dominating offence.
