San Francisco Giants take series with 7-2 win over New York Mets – MLB Update
San Francisco Giants continued their domination against New York Mets as they secured a comfortable 7-2 win at the Citi Field in New York, NY on Monday, April 23 in the finale of a four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Giants’ pitcher Madison Bumgarner must have watched Tim Lincecum securing an easy win and he looked even better on the mound, tossing up seven solid innings. Pablo Sandoval had a great time on the plate, hitting a home run to lift the Giants to a well deserved 7-2 win.
"It was a long day and a good day," Bumgarner said.
"Willie Mays is one of the greatest," Sandoval said. "Everything's going well."
Bumgarner allowed just one run and three hits to win his third straight start this season. The 22 year old is on a six year $35.5 million contract and he will be looking to show his true value.
"I kind of liked watching hitters and seeing what they did against Timmy," Bumgarner said.
The win will be of great importance for the Giants who made an ordinary start to their 2012 season campaign. However, considering the way they have outplayed the Mets in their last two games is a clear indication of the comfort level San Francisco is feeling right now.
With their superb 3-1 series win over the Mets on Monday, the Giants also improved their win-loss record to a respectable 9-7.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Giants’ pitching attack is capable of leading them to the post season but it will be interesting to see if they can bring more consistency into their game play to compete with other top teams in MLB.
The Mets, on the other hand, will be disappointed with their efforts in the last couple of games. After losing the opener, New York bounced back strongly in the following game to level the series.
However, they have not been able rise to the occasion since then. It will not be wrong to say that they have some serious work to do to get things back on track.
